The collection is now revealed! You can find the exchange works here (and the AU Fest works here).

All participants who posted a gift fulfilling their assignment should have a gift work waiting for them in the collection.

Please get in touch at thedevilchicken+auex@gmail.com (including your AO3 username and a note of the issue) if any of these things are true:

you fulfilled your original assignment on time but you have not received a gift
your gift does not include a character/ship, medium and AU that you requested
your gift contains a DNW that you stated in your signup on AO3

The collection opening late also means creator reveals will be delayed. Expect that to happen at 20:59 BST Saturday 23 September.

Five pinch hits remain! As that's the case, there will be another delay.

The deadline for these will now be 20:59 BST on Thursday 14 September - view the countdown here.

All being well, the collection will then reveal on Saturday 16 September, but every signed up participant who has completed their assignment by the deadline must have a gift before the collection can open.

To claim, please comment with your AO3 username (comments are screened) and the name/number of the pinch hit you want to claim. You don't have to be signed up to the exchange to claim a pinch hit, but you do need an AO3 account.

The minimum requirements are 1000 words or a completed piece of fanart, involving a requested fandom/ship/AU/medium combination. Fic should be a completed standalone work. Art should be original work created entirely by you; icons, manips, etc. cannot fulfil art requests.

Locked/placeholder letters: If you linked to a letter in your signup and it's currently locked and/or is a placeholder, it would be much appreciated if you could complete and/or unlock it as soon as you're able! Signups are now closed!

I'll start matching now and post an update tomorrow morning BST.

There are likely to be a few unmatchable people (participants with no one to create a gift for) who I'll need to contact; they'll have 24 hours to reply from the time I send the email, so keep an eye on the email connected to your AO3 account. Please don't expect assignments to be sent out immediately!

If you'd like to peruse the signups in the meantime, you'll find find the requests summary here.

Update: there are 12 participants who are currently unmatchable (i.e. they have no one to create a gift for). They've been emailed and now have 24 hours to respond, by 21:45 BST Monday 10 July. Please check the email connected to your AO3 account!

Update 2: the deadline for unmatchables to respond has passed, but AO3 has been having issues for multiple hours. I can't get into the collection to make any changes at the moment - fingers crossed for tomorrow (Tuesday)!

You have at least one person you can create a gift for (remember: your offers need to match with their requests on fandom, character-or-ship, medium and AU freeform)
You're requesting and offering at least three different fandoms (your signup will be deleted without contact if you aren't)
Within each individual request slot, you're happy to receive any combination of character-or-ship and AU tags you've requested - if you're not, please amend your request!
You've listed any reasonable Do Not Wants you have in your signup on AO3
You're not DNWing what you've asked for in your tags

AUex Requests Summary | AUex Signup Summary

Remember: there's a known bug that means not all nominated tags will appear in the dropdown! If you encounter this, copy and paste the tag straight from the tagset and it should work.

Instructions:

Fandom: Choose your fandom (1 per request/offer)

Characters: Choose fanfiction, fanart, or both

Relationships: Choose your characters and/or relationships (1-10 per request; 1-20 per offer)

Additional Tags: Choose your AUs! - must be "ALL" tags or match your fandom (2-20 per request/offer)

Letter URL: Link to your Dear AUex Creator letter here (optional)

Optional Details: Add request information for your gift creator here (optional, but DNWs must be in your signup to be enforceable; bear in mind these cannot be used to box your gift creator into creating a very specific scenario)

Repeating fandoms in requests and offers:

You must request and offer a minimum of three different fandoms.

You can request/offer the same fandom more than once to include different characters/groups/AUs, but you must still meet the minimum number of separate fandoms overall.

e.g. a signup that requests/offers only Harry Potter x3 would be invalid, but requesting/offering Harry Potter x3 plus Star Wars Sequel Trilogy and Buffy the Vampire Slayer would meet the minimum required fandoms.

If you are not requesting/offering the required number of distinct fandoms by the time signups close, your signup will be deleted.

DNWs:

If you have any Do Not Wants, please include them in your Optional Details.

Only reasonable DNWs included in your signup can be enforced. (Please bear in mind that DNWs cannot be used to box your creator into producing a very specific work.)

AU Tags:

The AU tags you request/offer must either match the fandom or start with "ALL:"

e.g. if the fandom is Harry Potter, you could request/offer "HP: Character Sorted differently" and "ALL: Space Pirates AU" but not "SW: Ahsoka is a Nightsister".

Exception: if the tag is for a closely related fandom, e.g. Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire, you can use it.

You can request/offer 2-20 AUs in the Additional Tags field.

Multiple signups:

Participants may sign up with a maximum of two accounts each.

If you sign up with two accounts, please bear in mind you will be expected to: 1) produce at least one fanwork per signup, and 2) arrange your requests/offers to ensure that you cannot match with yourself (unless you're happy to create a gift for yourself).

Nominations have reopened to accommodate AU Fest but you're welcome to nominate additional tags for your AUex signup if you wish to. Please do only nominate tags you intend to request at this stage.

Nominations still need to adhere to the guidelines. If they don't, they will be rejected without query. Please also ensure your AU tag nominations are as clear and unambiguous as possible. Please be very careful to avoid typos; I cannot remove tags at this point.

Nominations will reclose one hour before signups end, at 19:59 BST Sunday 9 July, so I'm not overwhelmed with last-minute additions. They will reopen for the fest at some point afterwards.

Note that approvals will not be instantaneous as they do require a mod to look at them; I'd recommend either nominating everything you want to request/offer and waiting for approval before you sign up, or signing up and adding to your signup later once approvals are made.

All characters and relationship tags have now been dealt with, and I just have one query about AU freeforms!

ALL: Kidfic: nominator, could you please rephrase this to be very clear about what kind of kidfic this refers to, and make sure it's clearly an AU? It also must not specify a medium in the tag. Please respond to this post.

If I don't hear from the nominator by this time tomorrow (1:15pm BST Tuesday 27 June), I'll reject this - we've got a fair selection of kid-related (and de-ageing-related, if that's what was meant!) tags already in the tagset, so hopefully it's already covered!

Signups should open on Wednesday as planned.

do not nominate Character/Everyone - please name who you mean!

If your nominations aren't approved immediately: don't panic! nominations are displayed to mods in a random unsortable order, not by date submitted, and yours may take some time to come up.

Notes on nominations:

Each participant may nominate up to 6 fandoms with 1-10 characters/relationships in each, plus 20 AUs as freeforms.

Fandoms:

Any fandom (except Original Work and Creator's Choice of Fandom) is eligible if it has already been released, or will have been released by the time signups open on Wednesday 28 June.

If the fandom has a canonical tag on AO3, please use it. (e.g. use "DC Extended Universe", not "DCEU".)

If your fandom does not have a canonical tag on AO3, that's fine - you can still nominate it.

All fandoms must have at least one character or relationship nominated. If you nominate a fandom without characters or relationships, these will be rejected.

Do not nominate 'All Media Types' or "& Related Fandoms" fandoms.

Please be as specific as possible to avoid confusion.

This means nominating specific versions, e.g. 'Les Misérables - Victor Hugo' not 'Les Misérables - All Media Types'.

If your fandom's most fitting tag is an 'All Media Types' or '& Related Fandoms' fandom, please comment here to discuss.

Exceptions: 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - All Media Types' and 'Assassin's Creed - All Media Types'. Please use the All Media Types tag in these cases.

Character and Relationship Tags:

Characters and groups all go in the Relationship slots

Please avoid using pipes and diacritics wherever possible - if you nominate a character with a piped name, I'll choose a name myself!

Single character format: "Solo: Character Name" (e.g. Solo: Natasha Romanov)

Gen relationship format: "Character 1 & Character 2" (e.g. Brienne of Tarth & Sansa Stark)

Romantic/sexual relationship format: "Character 1/Character 2" (e.g. Amilyn Holdo/Leia Organa)

Do not nominate Creator's Choice of Ship or Solo: Creator's Choice of Character - be specific.

Do not nominate tags that would require a work to contain two relationships, e.g. Peter Parker/Tony Stark & Bruce Banner/Loki. These will be rejected. ("A/B & C" is fine, e.g. Peter Parker/Tony Stark & Bruce Banner.)

Group nominations need to be in / or & format, using character names where they exist; please do not nominate groups by group name only or "Character/Everyone" etc. (The reason for this is: if you nominate e.g. "The X-Men", technically your gift creator would be obliged to create a work featuring all possible members (and potentially guess if you want gen or ship). Please be specific so everyone understands which characters - and the nature of the relationship between them - should be included in your gift!)

Crossovers: nominate in 'Crossover Fandom' with the characters alphabetic by surname and a fandom name for each character in brackets (e.g. Tony Stark (MCU)/Bruce Wayne (DCEU))

Worldbuilding: if you want to request worldbuilding, please nominate "Other: Worldbuilding (fandom name)" (e.g. Other: Worldbuilding (Harry Potter)) - what you want the worldbuilding to be about should be specified in your AU tags, not the worldbuilding tag.

Please nominate your relationship tags with the characters in alphabetical order by surname/family name, with character names formatted according to the order used by the canon (e.g. if the canon uses "Family-Name Given-Name", use that)

Disambiguate your character and relationship nominations if you like, but this is not required. If you do and the fandom is already in the tagset, please make sure you use the same disambiguation as has already been used. If this step does not make sense to you: disregard it!

Original characters in non-original canons:

You may nominate Canon Character/Original Character, e.g. Steve Rogers & Original Male Character, Rey/Original Female Jedi, etc.

You can nominate wholly original ships or characters, e.g. Original Male Jedi/Original Male Sith (SW:TOR); Solo: Original Male Hobbit (LotR - Tolkien). If you do this, you must add the fandom or an abbreviation of it in brackets.

Bear in mind that this is not a mechanism by which to nominate your own pre-existing original character; please expect your writer/artist to create one!

AU Tags:

All go in the Freeform slots

Check what you want hasn't already been nominated.

If applicable to (almost) any fandom: ALL: AU here (e.g. ALL: Coffeeshop AU; ALL: Everyone Lives Nobody Dies)

If fandom-specific: "FANDOM ABBREVIATION: AU here" (e.g. HP: Harry is sorted into Hufflepuff; LotR: Boromir lives)

Note: all general AU tags have been imported from last year but not fandom-specific ones.

AU tags can only be a maximum of 100 characters in length. You can use the spreadsheet here to check tag length.

If you run out of freeform nomination slots, apologies - 20 is the max as determined by AO3. Please ensure they're properly formatted and fit within the AO3 character limit so I can copy-paste (so 100 characters including spaces - you can use the spreadsheet here to check how many characters it is).

If you spot any duplicates, feel free to let me know! I'm not watching the freeforms super closely. My intention is to weed out obvious freeform duplicates once signups close.

Two old and two returning post-deadline pinch hits are below!

As we now have four outstanding pinch-hits, I'm announcing a delay of a week (to accommodate RL and give pinch-hitters time). That means the deadline for these is 20:59 BST on Thursday 8 September - view the countdown here.

All being well, the collection will then reveal on Saturday 10 September.

To claim, please comment with your AO3 username (comments are screened) and the name/number of the pinch hit you want to claim. You don't have to be signed up to the exchange to claim a pinch hit, but you do need an AO3 account.

The minimum requirements are 1000 words or a completed piece of fanart, involving a requested fandom/ship/AU/medium combination. Fic should be a completed standalone work. Art should be original work created entirely by you; icons, manips, etc. cannot fulfil art requests.
